Why you should play Fake OS/Interface Drama games
When mabbees and I were developing Terranova in 2020, we noticed there were already a few games like ours such as Secret Little Haven, Her Story, and Emily is Away. They were typically tagged as “interactive fiction” but featured more than just words - they had interfaces where players could press buttons, drag sliders and play games in addition to playing through text-based stories.
Back then we named the genre, “interface dramas” as we saw the games simulating the “drama” of a stage play with the veneer of interface.

Like CJ says, I’m glad to see interface dramas getting recognition as their own distinct genre — even if the name FakeOS seems to have won out. It was nice to partacipate in the InterfaceX26 showcase. In addition to getting our game Terranova some time in the spotlight, we also picked up some cool new games that I’m looking forward to playing.
